Hello everyone and happy May day! Another quick post for you...
L is for Lily of the Valley,
the flower of May...
and was a popular flower to have on postcards....
and on calling cards...
Other names for this highly fragrant little bloom are
May Lily and May Bells.
The flower signifies the return of happiness.
I am always happy each May to find the sweet blooms
next to my front porch.
This May I am lucky enough to have found a Lily of the Valley teacup to photograph with these sweet little blooms.
It is a Queen Anne fine bone china cup made in England.
To bring out the pink I used a pink doily and even had a hanky with embroidered lily of the valley on it! :)
Thank you so much for visiting
and I hope this May brings you much happiness!

ReplyDeleteVery romantic and nostalgic.
Wishing you a great week,
Janet
I love lily of the valley, mom used to have so many in the area around the trees. The sweetest little teacup ever.
ReplyDeleteI see where you visited my blog, but something is wrong I guess with blogger again as not of the comments are coming to my email to see. Blogger is frustrating.
I always so love both your teacups and your ephemera! The Victorians had such an eye for sentiment and ornamentation! Please come back and link to Tuesday Cuppa Tea...there was a Linky glitch...

Gina, your May teacup is gorgeous! I will be sharing mine soon. :-) Your hanky is really lovely as well. Those wee bells in your garden are so beautiful and I can imagine how sweet they smell too. Thank you for sharing with us this lovely post and have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sandi
How pretty this is, Gina! I love lily of the valley, and ours are "up", just not yet "out". It's still cool in Northern Ohio. Love your cup and doily, too!
ReplyDeleteDear Gina:
ReplyDeleteI love your Queen Anne Lily of the Valley cup and saucer and love the postcards as well. Lily of the Valley is always so "comforting" and sweet. It smells good too! Thanks for sharing and linking such sweetness.
I do miss Lily of the Valley - I had it around my home in Michigan but it doesn't grow in Florida. I really enjoyed your sweet photos.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Lily of the Valley tea cup. Your post is beautiful as usual. Have a great Mother's Day. Blessings, Martha
ReplyDeleteI love Lily of the Valley....with a May birthday, I guess it was meant to be. I still remember my husband had sent me roses when I gave birth to our first child, but due to an extended hospital stay, the roses were gone. One morning he came in with the most beautiful little bouquet of Lily of the Valley. I can still remember rolling over in my hospital bed and smelling that wonderful fragrance! Alas, I too, live in Florida now where no Lily of the Valley grows. I did inherit a lovely set of sterling flatware that features Lily of the Valley, I guess it is time to feature a tablescape with it! I would love it if you would stop by and share your lovely post at Celebrate Your Story! link party! Here is the link: http://celebrateanddecorate.com/celebrate-story-24/, I hope we see you there!
ReplyDeleteOur Lilies of the Valley are up and blooming too. They were my grandma's favorite flower and love how the aroma fills the room. Your teacup is gorgoues!
ReplyDeleteLook at you taking your pretty tea cup outside. haha
ReplyDeleteit looks so pretty in the natural light
I use to have some Lilly of the Valley plants and guess they died out.
As usual I like your old post cards.
It's also Mothers Day also and you are such a sweet little Mother
so Happy Mother's Day
Hi Gina. Thought it was about time that I checked in. You have such a great assortment of old post cards. They are always such fun to see. My lily-of the -valley plants are mostly leaves this year with not too many blossoms. Still such a pretty flower though..Happy Wednesday..Judy
ReplyDeleteVery nice, Gina! Your post reminded me that my lily of the valley hasn't bloomed yet...
ReplyDeleteYour post cards in the beginning of the post remind me of a book my grandmother left me full of her collection of old cards.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing with SYC and evoking a sweet memory for me.
Gina, I will be featuring your post on Monday at No Place Like Home. Have a lovely Mother's Day weekend.
ReplyDeleteThis is a seriously pretty teacup, Gina.

Dear Gina:
ReplyDeletePlease come link up! I can't believe I went back to that old post and thought Josh had a prom. Please don't tell him how nuts I am. I thought it was odd that they had a prom in college! Ha! You can count on me any time for "out to lunch"!
