DOLL IN THE LOOKING GLASS so her post reminded me that I had a few postcards I wanted to show as well.
February 29th was the only day that was acceptable, according to legend, for a lady to propose to a gentleman. See Debra's post for the detailed version of this legend.
Since it only comes along every four years, Leap Year postcards are rather hard to find, so I only have two and have created a very simple vignette using some of my dollhouse miniatures and some lace.
I like this card, look at all the ladies coming out of the woods all at once to approach this poor bachelor. I bet he's scared too death! And besides being scared, which lady's proposal might he accept?
It was said that if he didn't accept he would be fined money,
or 12 pair of gloves.
So here are the gloves, did he accept or not?
He did and here is the lucky lady
being whisked off on their honeymoon
to the sandy beaches of Atlantic City, New Jersey!
How romantic is that?
Here are a few family wedding photos from yesteryear.
Wonder who proposed to who?
This gal looks (and is) a little young...
This gal looks a little uncertain...
And this gal is quite certain!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
